Cinnamon-Sugar Baked Apple Roses

An elegant and surprisingly simple dessert where thin, flexible apple slices are rolled into buttery puff pastry to create a stunning floral presentation.

    Cut the apple in half and slice very thinly. Microwave the slices on a plate for about 45 seconds until they are limp and flexible enough to roll without breaking.

    Roll out the puff pastry on a floured surface to just under 1/8-inch thickness. Cut into strips roughly 3 inches wide by 12-15 inches long.

    Spoon melted butter over the pastry strips and sprinkle generously with cinnamon sugar.

    Lay the apple slices along the top edge of the pastry strip, overlapping them so the rounded tops extend about 1/4-inch past the edge. Fold the bottom half of the dough up over the apples and seal the ends.

    Brush the folded dough with egg wash and add another dusting of cinnamon sugar. Roll the strip up from one end to the other, creating a rose shape.

    Place the roses into ramekins that have been brushed with butter and dusted with white sugar. Bake in a preheated 400°F (200°C) oven for about 45 minutes until the pastry is deep golden brown.
